A Travelling Art Kit

My bag has wonderful bamboo handles and an oval bottom

one of my felted pencil pouches
During the summer months, one thing I have come to cherish, is my Art Bag-an art on the go kit. I bring it with me everywhere especially during the summer months where so much of life is lived out doors, in the woods, on a boat, vacoationing in the sand. I made my bag by repurposing, a thrift store find. I found a beautiful turquoise wool sweater, that I created into a type of carpet bag style bag. I felted it and embellished the front with antique pillowcase lace, buttons, velvet ribbon and flowers I made with the leftover scraps from the sweater. In it I often have too many things, but all of them are things in process and artwork that I love doing. What better way to spend your time than doing something you love while you wait or have a gap of unsolicited time. This to me is time well spent! It helps me relax, changes my mood, and can draw me into the solace and peace of my Creator.  If you know anything about me, you know I am all about art and faith.
I love my Art Bag, it helps me keep art in the front of my life, because I can always have it with me. I don't know about you but I can always use more beauty and peace in my life and there is no better way to get it than through the creative process.

Details of the front of my bag.

Here is what is in my Art Bag:

Last Day of Camp HeARTfull

Lesson #5: TRANSFORMATION

WOW! What a week it has been! I hope you can see the joy of learning and creating on these camper's faces. I have had such a blast with these wonderful kiddos!

On our last day together, we looked at the idea of being changed into a new creature! In our heartful bible time we looked at scriptures that talk of this very thing.  For example:

2 Cor. 5:17 tells us:Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

On the board is ways in which to live out that transformation found in Romans 12:9-16

For our creative project we created specimen box butterflies. The campers had a great time creating their own beautiful butterflies as a representation of themselves and what happens when you give your life to Christ, you become a new creation alive this the Spirit of God living in you! Pretty awesome.

We also shared our week with our parents with a mini art show. The perfect ending to Camp HeARTful. If you are interested in Camp HeARTful 2 contact me via this blog.

Camp HeARTfull ~Day#4

Lesson #5: Freedom

Can't you hear the Braveheart Battle cry?Freeedooommmm!
In our heartful bible lesson today we discussed what it means to be enslaved to sin. I asked the campers what kinds of ways are people entangled in sin. Here again is a great word picture from the bible about  being enslaved to something.
I just love the answers these sweet children gave me. Things like: bad attitudes (had to smile at that one lynn), rebellion, back talking, lying, stealing, rolling your eyes.
These campers also talked about what keeps them enslaved. But the best part, was that they wrote a small prayer in their journals asking Jesus to help them with whatever it was. Priceless!
For their art project we collaged a heart and stamped and painted then put Galatians 5:1 across our hearts, figuratively and literally.

The classroom at the end of our time.

Camp HeARTfull ~Day 3

The fun and learning continue!

Lesson #3:Being Beautiful Vessels for God

During our heartfull bible time we looked at Isaiah 64:8 which talks about our Father as the potter and we are the clay. This word picture that He is molding and making into the kind of people He wants us to be, so we can do what He wants us to do.

We discussed how man looks at our outsides but God see our true self, our hearts.
For our creative time we made vessels to hold a tea light and then symbolically painted our vessels after this verse. Wait till you see the insides!

We also talked about what goes in is also what comes out of our hearts. So we looked up verse 4:8 in Philippians in the New Testament to find out how to do this.

Aren't they just marvelous! I love them so much!

Lesson 2: Unique and Masterpiece

What ways are you unique? What is a masterpiece? We explored these questions in our next lesson. The kids brought up The Mona Lisa, brilliant! However not the masterpiece I was thinking of or wanted to teach them about.

The Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci
During our heARTfull bible study time, we talked about the unique things our hands can do and came up with quite a list. Helping people, working, picking things up, praying, talking, creating things, serving, hitting, pinching, hurting, stealing.

During our creative time, the kids created their own masterpieces using their hands, a unique part of themselves. The kids painted their own canvas and put Isaiah 49:16 on it, in a unique way to remind them of God's love for them.

Isaiah 49:16 says: "See, I have inscribed your name on the palms of My hands;"

Didn't they turn our wonderfully?
Stay tuned more wonderful art and faith coming your way tomorrow!

Everything is ready.

Camp HeARTfull is named for a heart-full of God's word and ART. So each day the campers do a bible lesson and an art project connecting the biblical truths they learned that day. It is a great way to make it all stick! We had an awesome time learning who God created us to be AND doing fun art on day 1!
This is the best of bible study and art lessons for kids!

Lesson 1: Plan and Purpose- God has a plan and we have a purpose!

Squirt gun painting and material prep!
As we prepared our materials the kids learned that they also have a purpose. We too, are created with purpose and this is revealed to us as we grow in the strength and knowledge of our Lord.

The aftermath of squirt gun painting-doesn't it look like fun?

The purpose of their painting was finally revealed and they created a journal to hold their bible study lessons in for the week. From those sweet faces, it looks like they had fun creating.
More to come tomorrow!

Vincent, Vino and ...Golf?

Yes there is such a thing! This year at the Camp McCullough Women's Golf Tournament,  I am donating a painting package for four and a tournament prize, $125.00 value.  This is The Apprentice Art Studio's version of a "paint and pour". I look forward  to a great evening of learning and painting with a little vino on the side! The bonus: the money raised will go to the scholarship fund at Camp McCullough to help kids who can't go to camp because of financial hardship. This is near and dear to my heart, because I love kids, art, and summer camp! It feels good to give back to my community too. If you would like to donate or sponsor a hole or even go play, go HERE for more information, or HERE to their Facebook page.

As they say, "it's for the kids."
